Rep. Demmer Votes “Yes” on Human Services Emergency Funding

Dixon…State Representative Tom Demmer (R-Dixon) on Thursday voted “Yes” on SB 2038, which provides over $700 million in stopgap emergency funding to human services agencies in Illinois not currently covered by consent decrees and court orders.

“As a member of two Human Services Committees, I understand there are many urgent challenges facing the human services safety net.  I am pleased that we could build on the higher education stopgap funding, passed several weeks ago, and shift our focus to providing this emergency funding to human services as well,” said Rep. Demmer. Rep. Demmer went on to say we still need to address some, “critical emergency funding issues with our state prisons and other human services agencies.”

The appropriation had a dedicated funding source, mostly from the Commitment to Human Services Fund that was set up as part of the temporary income tax hike in 2010 and contains unspent money.  The funding is estimated to provide approximately 46% of the spending those programs would have encompassed this fiscal year.

“I appreciate the efforts that are being driven by rank-and-file members in the Illinois House and I hope we can next pass full-year FY 16 and FY 17 state budgets to get our state back on track,” continued Demmer.
