Rep. Demmer on attracting jobs, making Illinois more competitive

State Rep. Tom Demmer (R-Dixon) spoke during debate on House Bill 1769, legislation to offer incentives for manufacturing of electric vehicles in Illinois. While expressing his support for the bill, Leader Demmer noted how the pro-business reforms and tax relief measure he led in 2019 (elimination of the Illinois Franchise Tax) passed on a bipartisan basis during the last General Assembly and were signed into law before Governor Pritzker later reneged on them; and how Illinois voters overwhelmingly rejected Pritzker’s graduated income tax amendment in 2020. Demmer emphasized how the General Assembly needs to consider each bill through the lens of what it will do to attract new jobs to Illinois and how it will keep existing businesses here in an environment where they can grow and thrive.
